Sports writing today consists largely of nerdy, out-of-shape white men writing about gifted, charismatic, wealthy, Greek god-like (and usually black) men. This state of affairs is accompanied by all the ironies, unspoken tension, and subtext you might expect. The chasm between subject and reporter is palpable in Body Politic.
