Family relationships affected by transgender issues are the focus of these thought-provoking documentaries. In Real Boy, 19-year-old Bennett Wallace is preparing for his first surgery as his mother struggles with the reality that she is losing her daughter. Both Bennett and his mother are appealing subjects for this engaging film, which follows their day-to-day activities. Bennett, who tells his mother he is "a boy with the wrong body parts," has overcome earlier issues of "cutting" and alcohol addiction and established a support system that includes his best friend (who is having surgery on the same day) and a new friendship with transgender folk music artist Joe Stevens.
