Gr 3-6 An unusual novel in that the protagonist has a strong social conscience, but the story will not sustain the interest of readers. Nine-year-old Miranda Corbett wants to "save the world," a lofty, yet somewhat implausible goal for a fourth grader. First, she spearheads her family's adoption of Maria, a Salvadorian child, whom they send money for clothing and food.
