In her introduction to this handsome book, companion to Clouds of Glory (rev. 7/98), Chaikin notes that while the Bible has gaps, generations of rabbinical interpreters have filled in missing information with stories called Midrashim (Midrash is a Hebrew word meaning to "search [the Bible] and explain"). These folktales and legends "all have one aim in common: to bring God closer to people and people closer to God." Chaikin makes clear her mission to link the heavenly world with the human world.
