Gr 5-7 Though the illustrations are not as strong as the texts, these eight books stand out for clear, accurate presentations of basic facts punctuated by lively turns of phrase and, sometimes, details not commonly found in the plethora of similar tours of the solar system and beyond. Bjorklund enhances her introduction to Venus, Earth's uninhabitable "evil twin," with explanations of why its occasional transits across the Sun's face are important to astronomers, and goes on to an ominous comparison of the greenhouse-gas effect there with the same phenomenon on our planet.
