Gr 5-8 Kurtz conveys a lively sense of reality through concrete descriptions of such aspects of Ethiopian life as markets, peasant associations, legends, food, and festivals. Frequent use of Amharic terms, explained in the text and defined in a glossary, adds to a sense of being there.
