Cook and Morton have authored this biennial guide to currently available jazz CDs from the first edition, and they continue to provide the pithy, insightful reviews their readers have come to expect. Given the vastness of the subject, even a hefty volume such as this cannot be a complete jazz discography. That said, this extensively revised eighth edition is as inclusive as possible, covering a multitude of jazz styles and consciously excluding only blues (which has its own Penguin guide) and "easy listening," or "smooth jazz."
