If there is a overall theme to Out Late, it is that the gays and lesbians featured in the documentary all wish they had come out earlier. Young viewers who wonder why they didn't will comprehend real fear and real retribution. One 79-year-old woman hears her brother even now talk about hating "queers" and "lezzies."
